disappeared default and credit score

Options
Hi all,

Just a quick one, I have been told recently by a few lenders that no credit checks can be performed on me as I am in debt. So I decided to apply on Noddle for a free score. When I checked my score was one out of five. I seen that I had two defaults one with orange and one with Vodafone. I was actually going to start paying these off at the end of this month but I got sent a new credit report today and the Vodafone default has completely disappeared?? It doesn't show up as settled, just gone! It started to default around 15 months ago. My credit score is still one out of five though. So where has it gone and if I pay orange off will my score instantly improve?

Thanks for reading,
Ross

No, my credit score decreased when i paid of debts. Ive just asked about why and rightly was told the score means nothing its the information on your file that matters. If you paid the debt off it would show creditors that you paid the debt which does look better however it takes time for it took look more positive to lenders.

The Vodafone default is probably in the process of being sold on, more than likely it will reappear next month with a debt collection agency as the owner but the default date will still be the same.

The score is meaningless so don't worry about it - the data is more important. Defaults will disappear 6 years after the first default - just make sure if a debt agency buy it, they don't set a new default date and retain the first default.

A settled debt is always better than an unpaid one when a person (rather than computer) looks at it

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
