Change debit card PIN abroad?

OK, let's say it this way: your card is locked for PIN transactions.
In fact it's the chip that is locked. If you didn't request a new PIN, the card would work for non-chip transactions (with magnetic stripe).0 -
How can you change the PIN if you dont already know it?0

That is true mate. Maybe then it's a case of unlocking the one that they send me. Which seems strange as surely knowing the new pin number means that it should be unlocked the minute I enter it into the keypad.
As it stands, my PIN is locked and will stay that way until I unlock it at an ATM machine.
Either way. I'll be phoning Nationwide again when I get the new PIN for further guidance.0 -
Depending on the card issuer. You can insert the card, it'll decline but while the transaction is processing they will unlock the pin (as long as you have unblocked th card on the phone). You can then re attempt the transaction and it'll work. I know American Express do this.0

If a new PIN is sent to the UK and someone can tell you what it is, then I stil don't understand why you would need to change it - just learn the new PIN that you are sent?0

Exactly, and the card should still work for non-chip transactions. I'm just going on what she said mate. The Pin is locked, the card isn't.
If I can't get it sorted it's not the end of the world. Have a Thai bank where my wages get paid into.. have another UK account, so can move money around and can still use the Nationwide one for online purchases/bookings.0 -

Yes it will be sent to a relative in the UK who will then inform me of it. I think either me or the lady I spoke to on the phone got confused (probably me seeing as I couldn't even remember the PIN number i've been using for 6 years haha), and it's a case of unlocking the PIN, not changing it. I will wait to see what they send me (a new PIN or the old one), and then call them for further guidance.0 -
I don't think that they can give you any extra 'guidance' on the top of what you can find on the website:

Yeah, I mean attempting to do it abroad. The nationwide website doesn't say anything about unlocking it abroad (not that I can find anyway). If it's a definite no no then I want to know that before I even try.0
