After waiting all this time for my defaults to drop off i finally got accepted for a mortgage.
my mortgage advisor said halifax would be the most generous, 98.5k on a 20k salary with a 30k deposit.
I'm still 7.5k short though but should i be confident with this mortgage promise.
Could these past defaults show up on the deeper check and another thing I'm worried about is my bank statements, william hill shows up often, amazon, paypal....etc..

Be aware that you have not been accepted for a mortgage yet. All you have is a mortgage in principle (MIP) or mortgage promise.
This involves a credit search. Whether this is a hard or soft search depends on the lender and with Halifax, it's a soft search. Be very wary of the limited scope & limited usefulness of a MIP based on a soft search though, as old previous addresses aren't used for a soft search. Halifax are one such lender and a broker who recommends using Halifax just for the MIP with a view to using a different lender for the full application should be avoided in my view.
Is your broker an independent whole of market one, or estate agent based? The latter should be avoided.0 -
No the defaults won't show up, they'll view your bank statements and outstanding debt etc for affordability so as long as you're not gambling hundreds every month I doubt it'll be a problem.0
