Transit jumbo vs iveco daily

I'm looking to buy a lwb van for around £3500, which van do you think is more reliable and the most important thing is which one will be able to hold 3Tones of weight? Do you think a 160.000 miles transit/ iveco has any more life in it?

You wont be able to put 3 tons of weight into a 3.5ton vehicle. The vehicle will weigh 1.5 - 2 tons or so on its own. So you maybe looking at half that weight.

We had the 7.5 ton vehicles weighed and some of those only carried around 3 tons.

Which is more reliable? At £3500 i would buy the one with the best service history. People see the manufacturers max limit as a target. Its a maximum.

What do you need to carry that weighs 3 tonnes? Will your licence allow you to drive a suitable vehicle?

the vehicle will be exported, i will be carying fruits to the market, i know some people that put 4t on a sprinter 311, but they have 4 spare tires with them. Curently i have an old 1997 transit which has never let me down, it carrys 2.5 t without a problem, the only problem is that it will do maximum 60 km/h fully loaded and around 80 empty. When starting the transit in the morning its a nightmare! I have to use starter spray even when its 25 degrees outside ).

What do you mean by exported? Even abroad the max weight limit will apply.

Carries 2.5 ton without a problem. But the only problem is that it only does 60 or 80km/h? I see that as a huge problem.

If it wont do 150km/h then there is a big problem. That starter spray is a death sentence to diesels. Its too harsh. You need to spray a very fine mist of light oil into the engine or even some gas. Not a spray originally designed for petrol engines.

A properly serviced diesel engine should do 300,000 miles easily. My last car is a troublesome Mondeo TDCI with the dreaded rubbish injectors, Yet its still going well on the original ones at 170,000 miles.

The sprinter will weigh just short of 2 tons with a gross weight of 3.5tons.

A payload capacity of approx 1.5 tons. So its going to be seriously overloaded.

A more suitable vehicle will last longer and me more reliable.

sound sto me like you need a 7.5 tonner rather than a 3.5 tonner as it seems that you are seriously overloading your van at present

There are Dailies available that have a gross weight of ~ 7 ton. Don't know if there are transits available at that weight. Think some Sprinters and Crafters might do gross weights similar to Dailies. You'll need a C1 category on your licence though.

You will also need a driver CPC to drive it as well.
I have heard that this is being extended this year to 3.5 tonne vehicles as well.

Op you do know how dangerous it is to drive an over-laden vehicle don't you ?. The xtra weight affects handling, braking and can lead to catastrophic suspension failure.

The problems will be failing to stop in a hurry and a deserved conviction for overloading.
