CPP Card Protection

in Credit cards
In March 2006 I closed a Store Card. I received a letter from GE Money regarding and outstanding amount of 86.89. After contacting GE Money I was told the amount of £70 had been added to my account in May 2007 for Card Protection that I had taken out. Firstly I don't have card Protection and secondly this card was "Dead" I don't use it, I asked twice in March 2006 and then in April 2006 to close this account. I contact CPP card Protection and they said the company which I have the Store card with namely Dorothy Perkins told them I wanted Card Protection in May 2004. This is the first I have heard of this as I find Card Protection a scam. I asked for the money to be refunded and the "Policy" to be cancelled. CPP told me that if I cancelled the policy I would have to pay them the £70 but if I kept the policy for a year they would then refund me. I told them I was paying nothing and to cancel the card. I was told "we've been paid anyway". Apparantely I verbally agreed to a police with DP who informed CPP and so I have GE Money chasing me for £70 and I really do not want to pay this. How can a policy be set up "verbally" on the heresay of another company. If I took an insurance policy out on my house, car, a person I would need to complete a contract and sign. No-one has any documentation to say I have this policy. Any advice would be very much appreciated as I am tearing my hair out!

I've taken out home and car insurance verbally over the phone, never had anything to sign for either of these things.
I have a card protection policy with CPP and have always found them to be very good. Often when you open a bank account or get a new credit card, the company providing it will offer you card protection over the telephone - they should tell you how much it will cost, but there is no need to sign anything - you just agree to it there and then.
Are you sure you have never received any policy information through the post? CPP have always sent me a yearly policy document stating what cards and other items I have registered to the policy. If you've never received any documentation something has gone wrong somewhere.0 -
If you agreed to a continuous purchase authority payment on your original application form then cancelling the card will make no difference, the CPA has to be cancelled with the vendor.
I say pay then sort out any mess afterwards, if you have any your credit rating will be taking a real hammering and if they record a default you will get no credit from anywhere reputable for the next six years.0 -
Hi, I'm in a dispute with CPP at the moment, would any of you helpful people have the address/fax of their managing director or someone with common sense who could address my complaint?
In my experience it takes someone at management to sort out a simple query with simple common sense, something which is lacking at CPP. :rolleyes:0 -
