Dublin pub with traditional music

We're off to Dublin in July, arriving on a Sunday coming home Tuesday. Hubby would love to find a pub where he might catch traditonal Irish music - last time we were theer we found a few pubs with live music but pretty much the same sort of thing as we could find in pubs back home. Does anybody know of anything? We're staying in St Stephen's Green area but don't mind somewhere a shortish bus/taxi ride away

Plenty of the bars in temple bar area have live music.
We liked the The Ha'penny Bridge Inn which is more of a traditional pub with locals and their instruments.

Celt Pub on Talbot St is also a good choice away from the touristy temple bar

I was happy with pubs in Temple Bar, seemed to be frequented by locals as well as tourists. It seems musicians do a circuit play a set in one pub then move on.


Perhaps if you want something a bit more authentic you could ask around when you get there at tourist information or in your hotel.

The Arlington Hotel has traditional Celtic nights with music and dancing but you have to pay to get in.

These are the places I bring anyone who wants to listen to Traditional Irish Music, have a few beers, and have a great time!

O'Donoghues Merrion Row. This is very near St. Stephen's Green. Great spot, you will have locals and visitors. Old pub with a great atmosphere.

O' Shea's Merchant. Traditional music and sometimes Irish dancing, and set dancing seven nights of the week. Great spot, locals from the flats around, and visitors from all over the world.

Johnny Foxes Pub. This is in a wonderful spot up in the Dublin Mountains. There is a shuttle bus that takes you up and back (for a fee!), it is a tiny bit "manufactured", but it's a really great night out. The "Hooley Nights" are brilliant for a one off experience.

The Cobblestone, on North King Street. The website is being rebuilt at the moment, but they do have great "Real" trad musicians. Authentic and very enjoyable.
