PCP missed service cost

Guys,

I have been a bit silly and missed my car service which I am borrowing on a PCP plan. The service was due at 51k miles and I am now on 56k miles - so well and truly gone over so I strongly suspect my warranty is now void(?).

When it's time to give the car back, what is the cost for a missed service? How rigorous are they at checking the car? It's from a Fiat approved dealer.

The GFV of the car when I return it is £2k roughly - so if the cost is too much, I could buy the car for the GFV? Can I do that? I.e. if they say the missed service, x, y and z will cost £500 - can I pay the GFV and because the car is then mine, the condition of the car does not matter... or does it not work like that?

Thanks
Kelvin

With a PCP the wear & tear clauses (including servicing) only apply if you give the car back and walk away.

If you do anything else, the requirements do not apply, i.e.:

    - Buy the car
    - Trade the car
    - Sell the car (recommended not to sell privately).

Sorry, I don't know how strict they are with service intervals (either for PCPs or for Warranties).

Most manufacturer finance companies follow the BVRLA guidelines when it comes to the condition of a car when handing it back.

    Have a look here...

Thanks both!!! Any idea how much the charge is I'd incur if I handed it back with a missed service? Is it ridiculous amounts?

Why not just get it serviced now? Better late than never

    What car is it ?

It it's one of those on variable service intervals, that asks for bits to be done as and when they come up, might not even show up when someone has a quick glance over the service book if you get it done now.

I would get it serviced now by a reputable - but not necessarily main dealer - garage.

If you speak to them nicely they might make a "mistake" when writing the miles in the service book with their garage stamp?

I have had a fair few cars on PCP and they have never asked for the service book when they collect the car at the end. I would just get it serviced asap and forget about it. A few thousand miles is not really anything to worry about on a modern car.

As for your warranty, yes it could be a point they may argue but it would mainly be for a large item like engine failure. Most parts on a car are not serviceable items, its only really the engine that needs regular attention. So if your starter motor fails for example I don't see how they can refuse that under warranty (assuming its covered) as its not included in the service. If your engine failed due to low oil now that I can see them having a problem with as that is a service item.

If you were 20,000 miles without a service I would perhaps say its a bit iffy!!

Oh and just to give an example. A friend of mine had a vehicle and the bottom end went. It was a new engine job. The vehicle came with 3 years warranty but was 6 years old at this point. It went to main dealer and they said they would replace the engine free of charge as it was a known fault... he was over the moon as you would be..... however they then requested his service history for the vehicle.... which he had never had done!!! In 6 years!!! So it cost him a few grand for a recon engine but it shows why I always use main dealers for service as you never know when it comes in handy.

Thank you for all your helpful answers guys!

sinizterguy, it's a 2011 (61 plate - Dec 2011 registered) Fiat Punto Evo. So it's three, coming up four years old.

I most certainly am going to get it serviced :) unfortunately they were closed when I called them earlier so I will make it a priority on Monday morning. I hope they skip over it when I return it. I still have a couple of years left so I will keep the car serviced on schedule beyond now; hopefully they will notice that.

Thanks cns06 - that first post is some reassuring information! The second, I feel for your friend. I hope I'm not in that situation as that's extremely expensive.

    Great idea too motorguy!
