Sitting in a hotel bar in Austria is it better to run a tab and pay for your drinks at the end of the holiday or pay by round when paying with a Nationwide Select credit card?
over 73 but not over the hill.

    Makes no difference.

The exchange rate may vary slightly from day to day if you pay by round, but probably not enough to make a big difference.

And as long as Nationwide does not think your purchases are suspicious by running multiple transactions at a foreign bar thus blocking your card :)

Do you trust the bar not to bump up your tab? (it happens all the time!!)

The Austrian bartender will consider it very strange if you attempt to pay for your beers round by round. ;)

You pay only when you decide to leave the bar, or if you are staying at the hotel, you can usually request the bill is added to your hotel room bill.

:rotfl::rotfl:I cannot tell you but next time you are in a bar in Perthshire perhaps you should rely on a company based in Scotland so as to avoid the awful exchange rate against the pound:rotfl::rotfl:

Doesn't matter. Just make sure you pay in local currency when using the card!!!

The room is already paid for, all I need to pay for is the booze.

Yet in Perthshire and elsewhere in UK, attempting to leave the bar before paying for your round of drinks usually results in a big bouncer bouncing you.

It will only make a significant difference if your card charges an additional flat fee per transaction, as it would make sense to try and pay everything in as few goes as possible.
