My first neutral and defect :-(

A wee while ago my printer went faulty, but before I found that out, I purchused new cartridge, which I installed but have not used. It seemed like a waste of £20, so I put it up for sale on eBay for £10, plus old cartridges out of the printer as extras (couldn't just put them in the bin). Some polish girl bought it and I haven't heard from her for over a month, until I seen that she left me neutral feedback yesterday. She claims 'poor packaging-lids are missing etc' and looks like she's given me 1-3 stars for description. Totally undeserved and actually irrelevant. What lids is she talking about? Listing said that the oackaging was opened. So I sent her couple of messages, explaining that she should've read the listing properly and if she didn't undertand, she shouldnt have bid on the item then left me a neutral. I also queried the lids as I've no idea what she means by that. Of course, she hasn't replied to my messages.
I have asked ebay to remove her feedback and defect, as I don't think its deserved, but they advised me to get in touch with the buyer, but how can I if she is ignoring me?
Anyway, my question is, as a private seller with 100% feedback and now 1 neutral and 1 defect, how does it affect me and shall I pursue the feedback revision or just leave it alone and just move on, as I am quite raging at the moment?
Thanks guys

'Lids' presumably means the plastic caps that are factory fitted and then removed prior to installing.
If you didn't mention that the cart had already been installed (and not just opened) then she might have a cause for complaint. But of course she should have contacted you first.
eBay won't remove it, so just forget it and move on.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Although it is frustrating to get marked down, I wouldn't worry too much about a neutral, it will soon drop off. You could always leave a follow up to it.0

This is the point, I have said that it was installed and the protection strip was off Which I've reapplied again. This cartridge didn't come with any lids (I know the caps you mean) anyway, as it was an XXL size. Thanks for your input0 -

Thank you, I did that, it's just so frustrating when you do your best and then some buyer that couldn't be bothered to read the listing properly affects your feedback. Does it drop off after a year?0 -

Like others have said, one neutral won't mean you'll never sell anything again. If you leave a factual and calm follow up response explaining what happened then people will understand.
I do not understand why you are confused the buyer has not responded to your messages. Contacting them to say they should read the listing properly and not bid on the item, is probably not the best way to get into two way dialogue with a buyer.0 -

Thanks for that, I just wasn't sure how defects affect private sellers, as I don't get any discounts anyway but understand that it's ok to have a neutral with reasonable explanation.I do not understand why you are confused the buyer has not responded to your messages. Maybe not, but Ebay approved of that saying 'I appreciate that you've tried to resolve the matter with your buyer by trying to contact them and explaining the description of the item. You did the right thing by acting professionally and by trying to solve the buyer’s dissatisfaction.'0 -
It's worth sending a general "sorry to hear you've had a problem, can you explain what happened better?" message. This might have been more likely to open up a conversation than suggesting it was her fault for not reading the listing. However, I find buyers who leave neutrals and negatives without messaging first tend to be difficult people who don't want to be helped, but surprises happen. This might have gone better.
Anyway, almost everyone has the occasional blip in their feedback, justified or not. Your buyers won't worry unless it's the only feedback you have.0 -

Thanks guys, feeling more reassured after all the responses.
I let the anger and frustration get the better of me but I was polite to her, I promise! Well, as polite as I could've been :rotfl:. I have started my conversation with 'Hello there, I am very disappointed that you have left me a neutral feedback without getting in touch first' then proceeded to explain the listing following it up with 'don't bid if you don't understand', maybe not my finest hour but i hope she got the 'I am kind of peed off' message.
Onwards and upwards now, hopefully no more blips :-)0
