Want to build a PC for my TV

To keep permanantly connected to my TV.
I need it to be small, and have a high resolution so its good to watch movies off. I'm wondering should I have HDMI output so I can connected it to my Sony Bravia TV via HDMI, or DVI, so then I can get a DVI to HDMI cable, although my TV has VGA input, I hear DVI/HDMI would be much better quality.

So, what kind of specifications would I need the PC to have and how much should I be expecting to spend?

You'll need to shop around but there's been some new motherboards released that have suitable onboard graphics and more importantly, a HDMI connector. If you're planning on watching hi-def, you'll need a decent processor as it's very processor intensive.

How much you spend is a hard one to quantify as Small Form Factor cases are a few hundred quid on their own.

What about buying a Playstation 3 and running Linux on it?

Is a modchip needed if I want to install Linux onto a PS3?
