:rotfl: I still do that even now :D

Mouldy cheese/bread ... no problem ... cut off the offending bit and enjoy!!! :rotfl:

    Of course ;)

Mould is NOT a sign of poisonous food. It's just a fungus ... rather like yeast ... honest!

On a serious note, there's a slight difference between harmless fungus and potentially posionous bacteria. Many people believe that the fungus is actually good for the stomach, in the same way that the "nice" bacteria is, in bio-yoghurt.

OT .... I did the good old-fashioned O-Level Domestic Science 30 years ago - OMG

But it's stood me in good stead. Perhaps another baton for poor old Jamie Oliver to take up. Though it shouldn't need his personal attention ... it's just common sense :)

One of mine decided to tuck into my parents turkey that I was roasting for them, I ended up hunting every shop on christmas eve and paying through the nose for a fresh turkey :(

If it had been my turkey they'd chosen it would have been sliced and disguised :D

    Are Some Molds Dangerous?
Yes, some molds cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems. And a few molds, in the right conditions, produce “mycotoxins,” poisonous substances that can make you sick.

Hiya Louise, sorry to hear about your relationship, his loss I'm sure, hope there are lots of good times ahead for you.x

just making a soup for myself now, chopped onion and garlic, slightly fry, add chopped bacon fry a bit more add frozen mixed veg, fry a bit more add half stock cube(cos it's only for one person) add water brign to boil simmer for a while, witer serve as is or cool and liquidise then serve with maybe some grated cheese on top and fresh crusty bread with lashings of butter. Butter may now be good for the body but it's good for the soul.

p.s to all those who scrape mould SO DO I smile

forgot to say add seasoning or anyhting else you fancy to soup
Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

I'm with Moggins and my MSE sister, CQ - I'm a look, smell and taste person. :D

I'm sure I've kept things far longer than is recommended, but maybe we've all developed cast iron stomachs :D I think a lot of the 'use-by dates' thing is the manufacturers covering their corporate behinds. After all, they put use by dates on tinned goods - why? As long as they are sealed, shouldn't most things be OK? I remember a news story a few years back about a tinned of corned beef unearthed from a WW1 site, they opened it and I'm sure they ate it - it was still OK.

When I was a student, I bought a piece of bread pudding from one of the canteens. Took a big bite and swallowed a huge piece of mould:eek: Went to see the nurse who told me I'd just got some free penicillin so to go away.

Can't remember the last time I or anyone I cooked for ever had food poisoning by my hand (as opposed to 'take-away' FP) However, if you ever come for tea, I promise only to cook fresh food :D

    ps Welcome Louise :)

Sorry to hear about your relationship Louise, hope you stay strong.

I have to admit when I cook a big batch of lentil soup (or similar) it sits on top of the cooker for 2/3 days constantly being reheated & I haven't died yet ;op I would love to freeze food but my freezer is always full ( I am going to start eating what's in there tonight in a vain effort to make some space) so we just eat whatever I've made until it's gone, whether the fact that it's veggie food makes any difference i don't know?
