Deleting old tweets

Has anyone managed to find a program that actually works at getting rid of their old tweets ?

Im trying to clear out all the dead wood on my account now that Im up to about 13K. The only programme Ive ever got to actually work properly was tweetdelete but only if I selected it to wipe out everything first. With all the daily rafflecopters I do and recent Rts I can't really doing that now. (just incase !). Ideally I'd like to get shot of everything over about 2 months old but I can't even get a programme that will reload tweets further back than 6 weeks..

Tweet Eraser works in a limited way but I can only ever get rid of a few with that programme. I think the problem might be all the RT's clogging up my account.. from what I've read I can only do that manually as they are not mine to delete.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions..Just wondering what all the tw experts do

Somebody on here once mentioned tweet delete, but it didn't work for me. I still have loads of old tweets, so I shall be interested in any replies.

I did manage to get that one to work Marg when I read on a forum somewhere that the first time round you need to select the tick box that says"Delete all my existing tweets before activating this schedule"
I hit it because at the time I had nothing to lose other than the last few days retweets but everything started to vanish in front of my eyes..started hyperventilating, halted it in a total panic & seriously thought I'd sent my tw account to the big graveyard in the sky but it seemed ok and the following week I had 2 wins !!

Im way too scared to try that again so looking for a more user friendly, less scary approach :)

Yes I had pretty much the same experience and would never try it again. I have 140,000 tweets and it doesn't cause any problems, I should leave well alone if I was you. You can only see a fraction of those if you look anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I think I got a bit caught up in that article superluckyme did on her webpage a while back.. from that I read it was a good idea to tidy up your account.. the 2 wins were probably just coincidence.

I do get wins on Tw but not that often given the amount I do. Trying to do more of a mixture between Manual and Rt's now just as an experiment. I seem to be getting more followers that way which is probably what I need. If you guys are still getting a decent return I will leave well alone and concentrate more on interaction and getting followers.

To be fair those wins I have had from tw have on the whole been really nice wins so I'm tending to think the larger companies are better to do just the one RT with and the smaller ones maybe try the manual way but then I'm not sure there is ever an answer with tw. Im probably just thinking about it too much right now.. and wasting my time :rotfl:

i dont delete twets but then again its a personal account aswell so idont see the point
    What goes around-comes around
  • I have been thinking this for a couple of weeks now, about tidying up twitter.

I opened an account three months ago, and since then have entered hundreds of comps and followed mainly companies. I have won two competitions so far, and BOTH were within the first week of setting up my account.

    Since then, nothing.

It has GOT to be because of the masses of comp RT's and companies I am following. People running comps just don't seem to like compers

I have wiped everything off my account today - will let you know if my luck changes because of it

Best of luck, hope you get a change in fortune now.

I do use the manage filter programme when I need to clear out those Im following (I think a lot here use the same one). You can start with deleting inactive accountants and then I work through clearing from the oldest on pg 1 that I don't see for regular comps and not following me back. I try to go into the programme once a week, clear 100 out and keep it well within the limit (I definitely need to gain more followers !). It doesn't take long to use that 100 up again.

Whilst some companies dont like compers the majority do. My twitter is 99%comps ive had 8 twitter wins so far this month and had 16 or 17 last month.

Not sure why anyone would want/need to delete old tweets, unless causing offence to anyone?

https://www.untweeps.com can help clear out any a/cs that you follow, who haven't tweeted in a while..

minimum age of tweet is 16 days i think.. max 3 clearouts per month, free.

    * remember to remove access to your feed, after its done (on twitter- settings > apps)
