No account number for reclaiming package accounts

I had a barclays additions account about 15 years ago. I closed the account 9 years ago and destroyed all my statements :mad::mad:

I have claimed PPI on this account from loans I had. I now want to claim for having a package account' Do I still have to complain to the bank first even tho I have no account number and they have destroyed my details too, as I have already tried to get my details from them and I am no longer on their system, or go straight to the ombusman?

You have to complain to the bank first and if you don't like the outcome then you can go to FOS. However, if you can't prove you even had the account let alone being missold, a positive outcome is unlikely.
