Advice On Blocking Pop Up Adds

Hi I recently downloaded windows 8.1 and now I'm having problems with all sorts of POP up Adds.


How can I stop these adds?

Do you mean you're getting these when web browsing? Or just randomly whatever you're doing?

The former just needs a decent browser with an Adblock type of extension/plugin (e.g. Chrome or Firefox), and/or editing your hosts file (see MVPS Hosts).

The latter suggests you've been infected with malware/adware and needs a different plan of attack.

For Firefox and Chrome uBlock is the current gold standard.

Says who? What evidence is there to say uBlock is better than Adblock or Adblock Plus?

The consensus seems to be that it is less resource hungry but I've used it for a few months now and I couldn't say if it's any better or any worse than the alternatives. Perhaps any improvement would be more noticeable on older, lower spec machines
