have you thought about paying for the grandparents to come over and stay with you? Would that work out cheaper and they can be part of your life for a few weeks. We went to stay with our daughter and her family in New Zealand and I really loved the fact I could take grandson to playschool, I could shop in the supermarket they use and meet all the friends they have.0

Hi there,
I am 25 and have struggled with a low wage nearly for the last 3 years -- despites being a double graduate! I have finally found a job paying 23000 and my partner works only part-time, due to health (and gets DLA)
I am not from the UK originally, so had to shell out over £1800 for my visa renewal. I was always very aware of my outgoings, but this has been a learning curve nonetheless, as we had to save, save, save, cut, cut, cut, all excess expenses. Commuting in LONDON is as expensive as having a car anyway.
We hardly went out, and if we did preferred to go to friend's for dinner, or had them over. And now, even with a decent wage, we only go out every fortnight, don't have sky or any media package, broadband only provider, hardly do we buy new furniture, unless it's broken and cannot be fixed. We always carry lunch to work - saves a £5/day at the very least. I like to watch my Indian telly, but, I do it online, even if it's not HD.
I do hope this helps in any little wayl! Also, the holiday you mentioned, I have my Mum come over once or twice a year instead, and we do take a holiday but mostly to Europe and find deals on apartments (rather than hotel stay).
(Our rent + CT works out to £550 or so)
Our savings target every month going into 2016 - £500 (min)
