Car not being driven

Hi folks, my brother died a few months ago leaving his car parked in a street. I am currently applying for probate and intend to give the car to my god daughter once I am able to. His insurance runs out in two weeks (not sure it is valid after death in any case)? Any idea if I should get it insured again - can I insure a car that is in my brothers name?

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers,
Chris

First off, sorry to hear about your brother.

You do need the car insured if it's taxed (and if it's on the street, it must be taxed).

If you can, I'd get it moved to an off-road storage location and SORNed, then you can let the insurance lapse and won't need to worry about it until the probate process is concluded. Since that can take a while, it's probably best to hang on.
