Received SAR details back from Hitachi Capital

Options
I've just received two SAR applications I sent to Hitachi Capital, one for me and one for my wife.

On mine they said they couldn't locate any details as I hadn't provided a loan agreement number. I thought the whole point of a SAR is that you don't have to quote any agreement numbers, just your name and address and then they will print off all information they have on you?

For my wife's SAR they supplied loan agreement documentation but I can't find any mention of PPI on it. Is it possible they have used a different terminology for it, or would it be pretty obvious if my wife was being charged this? Also I've just checked my wife's SAR application that was sent off an we didn't supply them with a loan agreement number. So I'm not sure why they are saying they need one to locate details for my one?

They may have deleted your information.
If you think you haven't received all the information they hold [and you did send a SAR and £10 each?] then complain to the ICO.

It is perfectly possible you didn't actually have PPI on either loan and so were not miss-sold. The policy is always going to be called something like payment protection or payment insurance and would be listed as a separate item (as you'd be paying for it every month).

Depending on how long ago it was closed, as -taff says, the company may well have deleted your records - 6 years after closing is the normal timeline keeping in line with DPA rules

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I thought that could be the case.

Actually I've just noticed that with my wife's SAR they only supplied details of one loan she took out but she's in fact taken out three with them all within the last 6 years. So they've charged us £10 and not supplied us with all the info.

I'm going to call them and make them send the rest of the information. I'll also query why they've not sent my SAR back. As I supplied exactly the same level of information as my wife's one, which they were able to process.

A SAR is only to return any information that is reasonable for someone to access.
If your wifes deatils have been deleted, they have been deleted. The company doesn't have to retain details for longer than is reasonable, which is a recommended 6 years. But this isn't set in stone.

As I said earlier, you did actually send two lots of £10 [one payment per SAR] and you did supply them with as much info as you could, including past addresses etc?

You can complain to the ICO if you feel they haven't supplied all the info but it may be a hiding to nothing as they can't produce stuff they don't have unfortunately.

Call and explain the details and see what they say, you can (softly) threaten them with the ICO but assuming you did pay 2x £10 for 2x SAR AND included all the info on all 3 loans, if they don't have anything you're pretty much stuffed.
