  • I'm sorry but I had to write something. You broke someones expensive cooker and you dont expect to replace it. If someone smashed your car window would you expect him to say "oops" your glass was dirty so I'll give you a tenner to replace?

They are attemping to solve the issue. They've admitted to the damage and are prepared to pay. It's just the matter of what is a fair charge. If you broke someone's car window and they demanded you buy them a whole new car you might take issue with that too...

Just replace it or compensate him...

EDIT: you have said it works when you use it but what happens when the next person uses it but spills liquid and it falls below the glass. you have made it useless if you want to do any real cooking (imagine boiling milk and it pouring over the sides) how will you clean the grease as well).

He gave you his house to live in problem free and now you break something but dont want to pay ... dispicable.

Not sure he gave him his house - think he may have paid rent ....

Strange place to have a cupboard, above a hob.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

    Do you really reckon?
I have one above my hob, that's the width of the hob. Also one either side that anything falling from could potentially damage the hob. And there is one on the wall to right angles to the cooker that could equally cause damage. I know my sister has similar, but these kitchens are so pokey everything is on top of something.

This place is rented but the hob is my own so I damage it.
