Vauxhall didn't recommend that size, its just the ones I've seen on eBay which they suggest will fit my age of vehicle.

I was so shocked by the price Vauxhall quoted for a new one I didn't bother asking for the spec. Guy who served me said it was a bit much for a spare and suggested eBay. Might go back and find out the spec.

Go back and check the correct size that Vauxhall say will fit your car.

If it really is the 115/70 16 size then just get one from an eBay seller.

I'd be surprised if it is - but if that's really what they say, it should be OK.

    Good luck.

T115/70 R16 was the supplied spacesaver in the Vectra C, SAAB 93 and Astra H, these cars has from 15 to 19" normal wheels depending on the market and specification.

I would think the wheels on Ebay the OP has seen are for the Astra H etc and therefore wont' fit the Astra J anyway.

I bought the space saver spare for my new shape Citroen C4 Picasso from the Citroen garage for about £200. The reason was that the only one I could find on ebay was £250 and it was in Northern Ireland. I was prepared to pay that much just to avoid the possibility that I would have to muck about with a spray can at the side of the road. If the puncture was in the wrong part of the tyre then it cannot be repaired even as a temporary job
I don't care if it is never used. The mere fact of its presence gives a feeling of security. All I know is that, if I didn't have one, I would certainly get a puncture. The fact that I do have one means that that is one less thing to worry about.
The absence of spare wheels is, in my opinion a truly retrograde step, by the motor industry.
Although, I was reading on Sunday, that they are starting to respond to demand and at the very least, making spare wheels available as optional extras.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

The standard full sized alloy spare was one of the reasons my wife bought a Kia Sportage. As has been said, not all punctures can be sealed with a can of gunk. The last one I had involved a 7 inch gash in the tyre sidewall.
