I bought a cd recently, downloaded it to my pc and tried to copy it, as it wouldn't copy using Nero. The cd wouldn't play in the car. I've just realised theyre winamp files. Can I convert them to mp3 so they'll play in the car and if I can will the quality suffer?
Thanks
Thanks

No such thing as far as I know. Winamp rips into various formats, including MP3 but it doesn't have it's own format. Are you sure your car cd player can play mp3 format? Not all can.
And I don't think there's much if anything windows media player can do that winamp can't."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Thanks type of file when I look in properties is win amp file and the car does play mp3s. Haven't got Windows media player. I use winamp I've also got I Tunes.
Thanks again0 -
what are the format of the songs? they may of been ripped as wma or something else instead of mp3. There is software which can covert it to mp3 or you could use nero to burn and audio cd0

If the filetypes are associated with win amp then that is what they'd come up with but there's no such thing as a "win amp" filetype. I've just checked myself on files that I know to be mp3 and wma and they come up as "winamp media files" because winamp is my default player and is associated with those files.
Menu>open with>choose program take a look at the extension after the file name."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Thanks, the format says winamp media file. I bought the cd on e bay. I tried using nero but it didn't work.

There is no such thing as a Winamp file. All it is telling you is that the type of file is associated to the Winamp program - in other words when you open it, Winamp will be the application that plays it.
We need to know the extension. Open up Windows Explorer. Click on Tools, Options. Click on the View tab and untick "Hide Extensions for known file types." Click Apply then OK. Browse to the CD and you'll now see the files in the format:
filename.xxx
xxx will be one of the following:
mp3
wma
ogg
aac
mp4
Come back and let us know which one it is.0 -
