kindle for a child

I have just started using my kindle again and my seven year old wants one
I am happy to get him a second hand one from ebay (it will help his reading) but not sure how to set it up with just books he can read on it. If I pair it to my amazon account, will he able able to view all my books  I don't want to set up a new amazon account as I understand this is against their rules.
There must be other families that adults and children have kindles. How do you manage and keep the books separate?
Thanks

Just put the wifi code into his Kindle when you want to download his books. Take it out when you're done.
Edited to say I noted your
. My kids got their Nooks when they were 6 and 8 - I see no problem with ereaders from an early age. Anything which gets them reading is great. Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

If I do that then all my books will be listed on his! he won't be able to download them but I have 100's and he will have to look through the titles to find his books.
Thanks for that
he has meares irlen and as dyslexics he will find it easier to read a kindle screen than white book.
You do raise a good suggestion. I could get a nook rather than kindle, this would keep them completely separate however I was hoping to take advantage of the free kindle books as I do mine and I think older style second hand kindles sell for reasonable prices.0 -

Ah, you can sub divide Nook titles into librarys (shelves). Don't have a Kindle.
Our kids borrow freebie ebooks from the library if you do want to consider a Nook.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

You don't need all your books on every kindle. I have two kindles and one Amazon account. You name your kindles, then when you buy a book you can either automatically down load it to one or both kindles. Keeping it always on your Amazon account.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

I'm pretty sure you can now add a "child profile" to the Kindles - you'll have to make sure that whichever one you get him from fleabay can do this as it'll be software dependent. It could well be than only recent models support this though. Have no kids so no idea how that profile thingy works. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0

Thanks I didn't realise it did that with two kindles. I have a kindle and an ipad attached to my account and it automatically sends everything to the kindle but I have to manually send to ipad. I assumed this was because it was an ipad and everything was sent automatically to all kindles.I'm pretty sure you can now add a "child profile" to the Kindles - you'll have to make sure that whichever one you get him from fleabay can do this as it'll be software dependent. Thanks but I will be getting an older model that you can only read books on. I do not want him to have anything kindle fire like, not that he isn't allowed devices like that but he is not allowed things like that at bedtime and I would like him to be able to read his kindle before bed as he does a book.0 -

Only on the more recent (and more expensive) models. My 4 year old has a Kindle HD and the book list and apps on the device are just the ones for her - you choose which ones to add from the cloud (the Amazon account holder's total list of purchases). Hers has the WiFi password protected so she can only access what I have placed on the device. The big plus for the newer models are that you can actually limit the amount of time a child can use the device each day within their profile and have separate profiles for each user.0 -
We have four kindles attached to my Amazon account. If I buy books through my iPad, I just select which kindle I want them sending to. If anyone else then wants to read that book, then they have to go into the archive bit on the kindle and download it that way.0

It's not just for the Fires, but e-ink Kindles too. There are new models of these out regularly too
Ah, thought that might be the case. As I've said, no kids here so I obviously never paid much attention to the child profile setupOnly on the more recent (and more expensive) models. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
