change of car ?

hi

I am thinking of downsizing my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8V 5 door (automatic), 03 plate (82000 miles ) to

Ford Focus 03 plate, 1,4 (54000 miles), manual

I have estimated a £400 per year saving in running costs (fuel, tax etc)

this figure has been obtained from reliable comparison calculators online,

the purchase value and re-sell value of my Astra is about the same, around £1100

although the £400 per saving sounds good, I have never owned a Focus, can anyone advise.

Would you be tempted to make swap alone for £400 per year saving, based on these two models of cars. (the Astra has been very reliable, I do 14000 per year to work and back)

?

If you're doing 14,000 a year you need a reliable car. Stick with what you've got, rather than taking a leap into the unknown in search of savings which probably won't materialise.

The difference between a 1.6 Astra and a 1.4 Focus will be neglible.

So all you will save is £35 a year on the tax. They will both do similar mpg.

In traffic the Focus maybe better, But on a run the Astra will be better.

You will have to do about 30,000 miles to save £300 on fuel. If
your lucky and do get more mpg than your current car, which i doubt you will.

Both cars are in the same class and size so it's not really downsizing.

Changing is likely to cost you as people generally don't spend lots of money on a car just before selling it.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
