Uncashed cheques

Been sorting out share certificates etc when an uncashed cheque from an old Bradford and Bingley dividend was uncovered. I know it was for only £16 but is it still cashable?

    How old is old?

If it's more than 6 months old, it's likely either not to be accepted by the cashier when you pay it in, or to be bounced as 'out of date' by the bank it's drawn on.

It's possible that no one would notice and the cheque could be paid, but it's equally as likely to be rejected at some point in the process

Bradford and Bingley went bust in 2008 and the depositors were rescued by the FSCS which paid Santander to take on the deposits/responsibility and the mortgagers may have been incorporated into a bad bank somewhere

The Shareholders got nothing when it was in effect nationalised

So the entire entity no longer exists

You can try...it's unlikely to be paid.

As the dividend pre-dates the insolvency you, in theory, might be able to get the cash if, for example, the funds were segregated or held by the share registrar.

Given the time elapsed and the since failure of B&B, it is unlikely to be worth the time and effort required to probably receive nothing.

You would need to ask the registrar named to re-issue it - you can always write and ask!
