Hi
Can anyone help or have any tips. I put my coat in the washing machine and checked the label which said 40 degrees and can't believe it shrunk.
Is there anything I could do?

Did you buy it recently? I would suggest you take it back to the shop and explain how you washed it. What is the coat made of- could you tell us.
I would try asking Customer Services first. Good luck.0 -
Under the SOGA I think you have the right to return an item of unsatisfactory quality. I think if an item shrinks after one wash following all washing instructions that qualifies! It will probably be easier if you have a reciept, but you can find out some more information here:

Was it wool? If so, you should also have used Woolite or similar.
Though if it was wool, I doubt it would have said 40 on the label.0 -
Thanks everyone, don't have the receipt as I have it about 3 months.
Labels says 40 degrees, 73 viscose, 27 polyester? Oh my poor coat lol0 -
Unfortunately not maman! :mad:0

If the coat was sold by a shop that sells that brand exclusively you still may have a chance--i.e. if it is an M&S label or a label exclusive to Debenhams but less likely if it is a label sold by multiple shops. Still worth a go, but perhaps more difficult to prove you got it from that retailer.0

If you did use a card, then your bank should be able to print out previous statements, which may help?
As for shrinking, I don't believe it can be undone. When fibres are spun they're stretched and many hydrogen bonds hold them in place. Too hot washing disrupts them and the fibres contract back. I know of no way to reverse this, but if anyone does I'd like to know about it?
I'm wondering if the retailer is Sainsbury's. Their clothes always shrink for me. Now to be fair, I do ignore the labels and wash everything at 60, but every single other item I've done this to has been fine. Their stuff just doesn't hold up to hot water however. Old machines with hot fill don't always control their temperature how you'd imagine. Mine just fills up with whatever temperature comes out the hot water tank. The internal heater only comes on if it's cooler than the setting on the machine. So, my lowest washing temperature is about 60 as that's what the hot water tank is set to.0 -
Where as I ignore everything and wash at 30°.
Sounds like someone needs to look at a new washing machine. Mine is 5 years old and I didn't even have a choice of hot water fill!0
