NI contributions when out of work?

Hi,
I lost my job in January and haven't signed on so I'm not receiving any benefits. My family have started bleating on about my National Insurance credits, but having previously been on benefits, I don't want to sign on as I hope to be back in work soon.
I don't feel I should be claiming any benefits right now but is not claiming going to be a problem for my National Insurance contributions?

The short answer to your question is 'Potentially'. Without knowing your age, NI contribution record etc it's impossible to give a fuller answer. I understand you not wanting to sign on but by not doing so you will not get NI credits.0
