I have this exact problem with Hi8 - as wealdroam says, Video8 and Hi8 are completely different from VHS so can't be played in a VHS or SVHS player. I was stuck with using the camcorder to play it back. Except that it would no longer play Hi8 stuff, just the Video8.
If you haven't got the camcorder itself (and you should connect with S-Video if you can instead of the yellow composite cable) then you might find one on eBay, make sure it's a Hi8 one though.0 -
