8mm tapes to VHS

I was told that you can put a camcorder tape, you know the 8mm ones into a VHS tape sized unit and when you put this into a vhs tape player you can watch the contents. Ive searched goole but cant seem to find anything that resembles what I was told.

Anyone come across such a thing?

Cheers

As long as the camcorder tape is VHS format, then you can put it into a full-size VHS tape adapter and play it through a VHS player as normal. I used to do this often "back in the day".

The alternative is to use the camcorder itself (if you still have it) to play the tape, connecting the camcorder to the TV - assuming you still have the leads. (I've done this very recently with my own old camcorder).

I was thinking of buying a camcorder to do the job then a friend mentioned this 'adapter' so ill have a look around for one of those instead.

    Cheers

Thanks for the replies. I just didnt know what they called the unit, otherwise I could have easily located one on Ebay.

The adapter that Bod mentions is good for allowing a VHS-C tape to be played in a VHS player.

However, it will not work with tapes in the Video8 of Hi-8 format.
These tapes are recorded in an entirely different format, and can only be played in an appropriate player or camcorder.
  • EasyCAP is what you need. Download to PC then burn a disc.

A reasonable comment. Although to be fair (to me), VHS format had already been covered in previous posts hence why I focussed on it. :)
