Car Insurance: previous claims advise

My car insurance runs out in a couple days and I'm getting quotes. My car was broken into on 3/8/04 and this is the day I contacted the insurance co. Is this then the day that I made the claim. (or is the claim made when all the work on the car was completed - ie 3 weeks later!)
I ask because the Ins co. ask if I've made a claim in the last 3 years. If I use the date above then I haven't and my premiums may be cheaper! Thanks.

The date you have to provide is the date of the incident that gave rise to the claim - so 3/8/04 is the relevant date.0
