Do you think this just a cracked screen or a broken motherboard also?
The lines flicker
The laptop was sat on and only has a plastic casing

    Probably just a damaged screen. Replace.
    Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.
  • and to add to fightbacks comment , why not try plugging in an external monitor (if there,s a socket) and see if it works

    I checked there is no socket
    Just thought with the screen flickering the motherboard may have been damaged.
