Stocks and Shares ISA Info

Seems to be a lot of information on the weekly newsletters regarding Cash ISA's, but nothing on Stocks and Shares ISA's, would like some expert opinion, why has this not happened.

Comments

  • Cash ISAs are pretty straight forward. You have an interest, you have a term, you have access restrictions. Maybe you can transfer in, maybe you can't. That's about it.

A S&S ISA is just a tax free wrapper around a brokerage account. You've got the whole of the financial markets to play with, they're a tad more complicated :)

So maybe they're hesitant to talk about them as the risk is a lot greater and lot more complicated than a cash ISA? Far more chance for things to go wrong and for the readers to blame the writer.

An S&S ISA is basically a wrapper for investments such as shares, stocks, investment trusts, bonds etc. They do have a basic S&S guide that explains what it is, but they can't exactly do best buy guides on investments.

S&S ISAs are a regulated product when it comes to advice. MSE is not authorised or regulated to give advice. The position it has is to not get involved with risk based investments (although there is a rather basic article on the site with links to a handful of platforms that provide a source of income).

If you want expert opinion in this particular area then you shouldnt be looking for it from MSE.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Agree with what dunstonh says for the very reasons stated in his signature, i.e.

S&S ISAs are a wrapper product, there is no such thing as generic advice when it comes to picking investments to put into an S&S ISA. And that's why you should not be looking at forums full of anonymous people for such advice !

Not for personal financial advice but I think forums can be very useful for getting ideas of what to investigate yourself and much of the info I see posted does fall into that category.

If it wasn't for MSE I wouldn't have known about iWeb and been able to take advantage of their S&S ISA accounts.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
