  • DUMPLING, why don't you have a chat with the Nurse at the surgery regarding your weight loss. She won't be judgmental and might be able to suggest an alternative treatment. I have heard that both hypnosis and acupuncture can help.

I had acupuncture many years ago for stress at work and it really helped, no good of course if you don't like needles :)

    Good luck

  • Good Morning everyone it's cooler here this morning but was warm enough last night to warrant having the big window wide in the bedroom and for it to still be warmer than comfortable. We're forecast 19degrees max today so I'm off to the city on the bus for a few bits and pieces I need.

DUMPLING petal, I've had a running weight battle all my life, I've tried dieting and sometimes it's been successful enough to take me down a couple of sizes, sometimes not but I find as soon as I ease up on 'special' foods the weight piles back on very quickly. I'm a size 18 now and have been for some time, I'm occasionally tempted to try for a couple of sizes smaller but know myself well enough to understand it most likely won't happen. I LIKE FOOD and that's the crux of the matter, I like cooking, trying new recipes, trying new cuisines, growing and using new fruit and veg and that's why I'm this size. I have been bigger and found that my decision to give up alcohol entirely brought me down to 18 from 24 and I've stuck by tht decision and it's working for me. On the other side of the scale I don't and never have smoked, I don't do fatty, sugary, salty ready mades I always cook from scratch and I'm fairly active and relatively healthy and energetic for my age of 67. I think some peoples metabolism and general make up predispose them to always be bigger than the 'normal' sizes reccommended by the medical fraternity and I think it's not realistic for us all to be given the impression that we're meant to look like a twig. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you are an individual just like me and all the rest of us, it's easy for the rest of the world to make judgements and to give advice but you are YOU, don't beat yourself up for being you love, if you want to lose some weight be realistic in your expectations and dont try for size 10, I got there once and couldn't maintain it without giving up food entirely which is not possible. If I was in poor health I'd try for less size but I'm fine as I am at the moment. Only tackle the weight for YOU, because YOU want to and be aware that you might not ever get to be 'slim' but so what? if you get to a size you're comfy with you'll find it stays off because you'll be more active. It's nice to come across folks who are not a clone of everyone else pet, it's easy to be part of the herd, much less easy to be an individual, Lyn xxx.

Dumpling the minute someone nags me to do something, I immediately want to do the exact opposite. These days I tend to say something like "look, I know you mean well, but trust me, it's counter-productive, so, not to put too fine a point on it, can it!!. Lyn's right, you need to do what's right for you, not what someone else says is right for you. Posi-vibes comin' atcha, mate.;)

That, my friend, is good to know - as someone fast approaching 55, with waist-length red hair and a ...er.... somewhat dodgy dress sense (currently wearing a floor-length black fringed skirt and a black top with a rhinestone skull & crossbones on, bought at the Poison Garden at Alnwick Castle, just to give you an idea).:rotfl: Thankfully, dogs don't care what I look like.:rotfl:

I can't improve on what has already been said but I do have an idea
of how you feel. I lost nearly three stone last year but then when DH and then DD had health problems everything just got jettisoned and the weight piled back. Whenever I feel as if I have let myself and family down I give myself a mental shake and remind myself I am doing the best I can for now.

DH slept better with the mattress topper last night and I managed to get a cooked breakfast into him and a cheese omelette for lunch.

Washing is hung out on the line and made a couple of phone calls to the hospital to make sure different depts know how things have changed.

Visited DD in hospital last night and brought her more clean clothes and had a bit of a chat. Made her smile with my description of almost being swallowed up by the superking topper ;)

I am sorry DH can't come home yet but at least they have found out what is wrong and hopefully the injections will sort it out. It is
exasperating when they don't take their medication and then TSHTF

No idea what to make for tonight but have pork to use up so will add, onions, tomatoes herbs and spices and cobble something together.

    Hugs to all

  • Dumpling sweetheart, I keep getting nagged about my weight because like you I am diabetic and have joint and spinal problems, I got so pee'd off I turned round to my doctor and told him after dieting for most of my life since the age of fourteen has only resulted in me getting fatter, that I will never, ever, diet ever again and I now refuse to be weighed.

We are not all born to be flat chested stick insects (I apologise to all flat chested stick insects who may find offence in that remark)

There are three basic body types, mesomorph, ectomorph and endomorph and no amount of dieting, in the case of endomorphs, or eating, in the case of ectomorphs will change what shape you are, messomorphs are just lucky B's.

    Afternoon all,

Csarina - Glad your DH has a diagnosis. (((hugs))) to you both.

Popped into town this morning to pick up a few bits. Can't resist a nose around Primark though, mind you I picked up a cushion for £2 in the sale bin, so am pleased with that.

Cleaned through and made some buns. Just having a sit down for half an hour. Just noticed a few splashes of rain on the window, that wasn't forecast :(

    Spag bol for dinner tonight.

    :D Thank you, ladies.
I've never dressed exactly "conventionally" and I'm not starting now; I go with what I'm comfortable wearing, and that means having my legs covered by my skirt or dress, specially as I don't wear nylons of any sort. Ever.

I've just done an hour and a half in the back garden - half-filled the wheelie bin with "detritus" (these bluddy trolls get everywhere!!) so I'm cream crackered now.

Luckily, it's mushroom risotto for dins, which I can make blindfolded, and I've done a jelly with strawberries in for pud.;)
