Tenancy renewal rent increase notice

Hi
Could anyone give me some advice please?
Our assured tenancy is due to be renewed on the 3rd of May and only just we received notice yesterday (14th April) that they are offering us another 12 months, but they are increasing the rent by £100. This will come into effect in just over 2 weeks?
I thought we should at least have a months notice of an increase and feel its unfair to expect us to find this extra at all (we will challenge increase in due course) with such short notice?
Does anyone clarify where we stand regarding not having sufficient notice?

This does not come into effect in just 2 weeks. There are proposing that it comes into effect within 2 weeks.
'Notice' can be whatever you decide, since, well, it is up to you to decide.0 -

Fair point, I've been a tenant for 5 years and expected to be given more notice.0 -
You have been offered a new contract. It can be offered to you 3 months in advance, or one day.
Whether you choose to accept the terms of the new contract is entirely up to you. Your options are:
1) agree
2) negotiate
3) ignore, and move to a SPT on 3rd May at the existing rent.
4) ignore, and move out on 2nd May

Thank you for clarification. I have a family and have never felt so vulnerable and upset. Landlord proposed £50 rent increase 6 months ago and we negotiated due to my finances being dire. Think they want me out as they know I can't afford any more increases especially £100. I just want a secure home over my families head.0

I am afraid this is the typical difference in views between a LL and tenant. Of course he wants as much rent as possible. Of course you want a secure home for your family without rent increases.
When considering your response.., remember that you will have to find another deposit, admin fees etc to an agency and removal costs.
Weigh this up against the £100 increase. Perhaps you can negotiate again as you say you had a £50 rent increase in the last 6 months. That would be an increase of £150 a month within a year. This might be negotiable. But compare your rent against comparables for the area. This could be useful in negotiations.0 -
How many rent increases have you had in the 5 years you've been living there?
Since you negotiated last time, the £100 might just be the LL's opening gambit. If the LL really wants rid of you then he/she just needs to issue a Section 21 and follow the due process.0
