Scottish Power - £15000 overcharge

Options
I have been with Scottish Power on a dual fuel fixed rate and having recently supplied my meter reading they sent me a bill for over £15000. This is a small house with one adult and 2 kids.
I phoned them and they didn't care, promised to investigate and call me back. Nothing happened other than red letters and threats by post.
I emailed them telling them if this wasnt sorted within 48 hrs, i would write about it on here and contact ofgem.
I got an email back apologising for the lack of contact and that someone would be in touch.
I then get an email saying your bill is ready to view, open it up and its now been reduced to £500. No apology, no communication and now more red letters as I refuse to pay anything until i get an explanation (it may still be wrong) and an apology.
Imagine if I was a frail person, or a push over!
Spread the word peeps, avoid them like the plague.

Is the £500 correct? If so, I'd pay it and worry about an apology later.

Unfortunately good customer service is not a legal requirement, but paying what you owe is!

What period is that £500 for? The winter quarter? Even so, for a small house, unless it has next to no insulation and you were running the heating 24/7 then that sounds on the high side.
