i have grown my own garlic at my lottie, but none pf them split into cloves and are still whole bulbs.
i'm going to make my own 'lazy garlic'. i had a look at the jars in the supermarket and they are just garlic and white wine vinegar.
do i need to sterilise the jar? they are going into an old jam jar. anything else i should be doing?

I just freeze mine if I have some that look like they are going off soon... (ie starting to dry out) other then that I leave them all tied up in a plat

Should you be bothered, if you were to dry them and store them until oct/nov, you could plant them again, and they should bulb up nicely.....0

Please do not preserve your garlic cloves in oil!
There is a significant risk of clostridium botulinum forming.

This leaflet is an american one, but gives some good guidelines. Garlic is low in acid and when stored in oil at room temperature is the perfect breeding ground for botulism.
Botulism, if left untreated can be fatal.

i'm preserving them in vinegar, but i want to know do i have to sterilise the jar? if so could i put it in the steam steriliser (for babies bottles)?0

when preserving I think you should always sterilise.... no point in spending ages making things that then go mouldy...
never thought of using a steam steriliser, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work - if it is good enough for babies, should be fine for garlic
