Problem - No credit history

    I would try making an application to barclays now (in branch with your id information).

    Even if you are declined this wouldn't affect your credit file - as they won't be doing a credit application search, because you are not applying for credit.

    I was amazed to learn that so many people do not have a bank account, even a basic one.
    I can afford anything that I want.
    Just so long as I don't want much.

    Hi Tixy

    I just want to say a big thank you for your help. Today Barclays gave me a cash card account, and as you suggested, didn't perform any credit checks etc. I was then able to bank my cheques.
