Toaster tripping RCD

Hi
Our 4 month old toaster has started to trip the RCD. It doesn't do it when we push the bread on but shortly afterwards? None of the MCBs have tripped, though?
Can anyone suggest what the next step is? Test toaster in another socket? Replace toaster?
Thank you

If it's tripping at the point the element has heated up, I'd bet the toaster was faulty.
If you try a similar appliance (something with a heating element - hair dryer, fan heater) on one of the circuits protected by the same RCD and it trips, I'd be inclined to think the RCD is over sensitive and you'd need a spark. Otherwise the appliance is faulty and you need to find your receipt!0 -
Resistance of elements change as they age (cheaper elements quicker change) toasters etc have a habit of things getting stuck burning inside etc result change is accelerated.
It can be a combination of items running together the last one making the final fault as it would appear (Combinations of Philips PSU being well known ) but in a normal domestic situation unlikely…
You can get specialist individual RCD’s with a lower ma power via those or test equipment that shows when it goes time, date, load etc but that’ll cost you more than buying another toaster which is by far the best option try a different make,,0 -
I had the same thing happen recently. I took the toaster back to Argos and they exchanged it. After a couple of days the new toaster done the same thing. It turned out that there was a currant from a hot cross bun on the element, after I removed it, the toaster was fine. Try cleaning the toaster to see if it makes a difference but do unplug it first.0

Ianwzzz, you hit the nail on the head
Shook the toaster a bit and disposed of all the debris and it's been fine since
Thanks all0
