This may not work for the 'package holiday' type destinations; but when you're in cities (esp backpacker-type destinations) and you're in a big group - tell bouncers / door staff you're from a local hotel / hostel and they often give you a few freebies - other week we got 18 jugs of cocktails (between 7 of us... )

Also, and this works everywhere, ask for bar / restaurant recommendations from front desk staff and they usually give you a few drinks vouchers for local bars (owned by 'friends', etc) - grab the freebies - you don't have to stay there all evening!

Oh, and when booking tours always do the old "if we do trip A can we get trip B half-price, etc..."
  • HAs anyone got any suggestions of what i can ask for. We are going to Florida, first 5 days to sheraton clearwater, we are getting married at the hotel and also we are going to Disney for 16days where my H2B and eldest will both have their birthdays.

    Debt-free and Proud!
3 years ago I got married in Sydney the night before the wedding and our wedding night we stayed at the Sydney Harbour Marriott. We booked a room with a city view but really wanted a harbour view, I emailed the hotel and when we arrived we had been upgraded to a duplex suite on the top floor with an amazing view of the harbour and opera house.

  • My best blag was last summer: Me and a mate went to Majorca for some sun, sand, sea and crap football (it was pre-season friendly time). I booked a hotel on a B+B basis, but was well aware in advance that the hotel specialised in all-inclusive deals. Anyway, we were only there 2 nights, but upon rocking up at the pool bar the first afternoon and asking for 2 beers, we were served, then laughed at when we tried to offer money. Very quickly, we realised they weren't taking money off anyone (the rest had wristbands on - we didn't but it was no problem). Net result = 21 free beers each, plus 2 x cheese toasties, 2 x cakes and a few Cokes. All for free. All without the all-inclusive wristbands.

    MAGIC!

I booked a single night in a Vegas hotel for peanuts. When I got there they (without me asking or tipping) upgraded me to a suite. Two huge rooms plus diningroom, 2 bathrooms and a balcony. Very nice. When I got back I emailed them thanking them for a very nice stay and said I was thinking of returning for a weekend 2 months later and could they offer me any kind of deal. They emailed me straight back -offering me the two nights completely free and some food credit.
