Hi All
I have just moved in to my first house and really am keen to install a downstairs toilet and am interested on peoples opinions on wheres best to put it and also what sort of cost would be involved? My floorplan can be seen on the below link:-

My thoughts are best to put it in the hallway to the left of the main entrance but there is a radiator that runs the length of this wall so if I split the hallway into 2 rooms (the hallway plus the toilet) I presume this will need to moved.

Where is the drainage , do you know where your nearest hanhole is? Looking at the floor plan, without any drainage drawings, I'd hazard a guess that it runs along the back of the house, thats major disruption to get a 4" pipe with sufficient fall if thats the case. You could be better off putting a downstairs toilet and laundry in the back of the garage as it appears to be a good length. You would definitely be able to pick up either the soil stack or below ground drainage for the bathroomSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

Looking at the floorplan the cheapest location would probably be at the back of your garage as you'll likely have a soil pipe running down your back wall to the drain.
However, you'll need to get building regs involved if you're determined to do this - so maybe worth consulting them or a competent builder/plumber.0 -
Garage or hallway both obvious places depending on existing pipe position one would be little harder unless you go macerator I'd also use that option if getting to existing pipe etc is to costly. unsightly etc http://www.saniflo.co.uk/ (plenty of other makes) Go basically where ever you want they do have drawbacks but overall there ok for most light domestic use...
With Macerator route generally more exact costing achievable to start as you can see route, distance etc opposed to a conventional system that involves anything underground the unknown there is always an element of guess more than exact…0 -
Interesting layout, two garage doors at either end of a long garage. Is there a partition wall in the middle?
I have to say the garage is the preferrable location. Squeezing one in the hall way will negatively affect the entrance of a nice house. Downstairs bathrooms don't add any value to your house on paper, so it would be best to put it in the garage out of the way. Maybe install a utility room at the same time, with plugs etc for washing machine and tumble drier.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
The rear of the garage is the obvious place, especially as it would be easier to access from the garden if your family are outdoor types.
In any case, you could develop that end as money allows, to get appliances out of the fairly small kitchen and into a separate utility area.0
