Hi
it's time to renew my car insurance and am going through online quotes.
Have noticed that on attempting to renew , the Insurance company I selected prompts me with details of a fault claim in December.
This is where I made contact with another car at a traffic light and I contacted the insurance for notification only.
There was no damage to either parties.
I asked the insurance for this to be removed and they said that it will be removed after 6 months if a claim is not made by the third party, and even so, third party may still make a claim after 2 years??? (This is AXA advicing me this) Is this correct?
I thought that if you had a collision you had only a few weeks to inform the insurance?
Now my renewals are coming up 30% dearer and I can only assume is because of this.:(
Also on renewing to a different insurance do I have to state this "non accident" even if there has been no claim by either party??
Thanks

No its not correct, if there are injury claims the limit is 3 years but if there are no injuries the limit is 6 years.
At the moment you will have to declare it as an open claim which will have a greater impact. In the future you can declare it as an unclaimed for fault accident which is likely to have a lower impact.
Insurers ask about claims and incidents and so you cannot "forget it" until its outside of the 3 or 5 years history asked for0 -

Yes
When they told you they would agree with your request to "remove" the claim after 6 months, this wasn't them telling you it would come off your record.
Your incident where you were to blame will remain on the records (and shared database).
They were referring to the length of time they await a claim before assuming there may not be any claim coming in and restoring your NCD - check exactly how much NCD you currently have to transfer to a new insurer.
Normally an insurer expecting a claim where you are to blame will reduce your NCD by 2 years pending the outcome of the incident0
