one for pregnant people

Does anyone have any idea how to get a baby to move? I'm 24 weeks pregnant, and the little so-and-so has moved so it is kicking me in the bladder. This is both painful and can produce unwanted effects (ahem!). It's been there for 3 days now, and I wondered if anyone knew how to get it to move into a more congenial position. Up to now all the kicking has been down my left hand side, I was wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that I always end up sleeping on my back, despite cushions and pillows to try and keep me on my side. Hot weather not helping!

Please, any advice - I need help!

Thanks

Ali

    Scrub the floors.

It's a great position for moving babies, and you get a clean floor too :j

If that's too much like hard work, try sitting on a chair backwards - leaning forwards slightly, or get a birth ball to sit on (or if you're not too tall, any cheap gym ball will do).

Don't slouch on the sofa - and try to lie on your side in bed, with a cushion between your knees and another under the bump.

Yes, get down and scrub the floors on all fours, thats what my midwife told me when I was pregnant with my first. When you sit make sure your hips aren't curled forward, push them out backwards.

You should try lie on your left side not the right because your blood vessels on the left are stronger and can take the pressure but the ones on the right are weaker.

OH is going to love this one! We have a lot of laminate flooring downstairs that could do with a clean, so I guess that's my evening planned out! Especially as it is his turn to cook....

    I just hope it works..

I really try to lie on my left, and always start off that way with the cushions exactly as described above, but I always wake up about 2am flat on my back. My bump is not huge yet, I seem to be quite small compared to other women I know who are at the stage I am. This is my first, so a bit unsure as to what is normal or not! Not due to see MW until September now! (I think around 28 weeks...)

Thank goodness I only have 2 more weeks of full time work left! I'm onto part time at the end of the month, which will be fantastic.

Thanks for the advice, will give it a go and let you know!

So you don't really want to hear how my two just preferred to kick my bladder? LOL! The joys!

If you don't fancy scrubbing the floors, the position is good anyway. Takes the strain off your back too.

I am 32 weeks now and she has turned head down and I am getting kicked in my ribs :(

    Now that really hurts !!!

  • If cleaning the floors is too much for you try some gentle swimming, that usually gets the baby to move and is great for toning your muscles ready for labour.Your midwife should be able to advise on where aquanatal classes are being held.
