MBNA Accepted then Declined.

So I applied for an MBNA card a few days back to be accepted with a credit limit of £2500. The application process online even said my card would be with me within 7-10 working days.
A few days later I called to discuss the balance transfer offer on the account to be told by the woman 'I can see your application here and I could approve this card right here right now but I'm going to decline your application because you have only been employed for 10 months'. I rather of been declined initially than going through the accepted then declined situation.
MBNA have terrible customer service, has anyone else had the same problem?

My experience with MBNA when I applied for their Rate for Life card 3 months ago was that even though I was accepted (with the 7 -10 day message) just like yourself, I found that my application still went to a underwriter who went through the application.
I'm sure that not all applications go through this stage and cards are sent out without underwriter intervention, but in my experience with them and in your case, we had to go through this stage.
After applying and waiting for the card to arrive, I was sent a letter informing me to call MBNA, which I did.
The advisor said that the application was being checked over by an underwriter and that she would go and check the progress.
She came back and said that the underwriter had approved it and that she could finalize the approval right there by answering a few security questions.
Card was sent out a few days later.0 -
i've never had that problem with them, i've found new accounts have been processed very quickly. and i've had some great BT deals from them over the years:)
the only thing i've found is that if you request a deal from them, and they aren't budging, they can be very 'blunt' in their response.. they certainly don't worry about telling you news that you might find to be disappointing up there in Chester:undecided0
