0845

I need to phone the Canning Town Job Centre and they have a 0845 number! It costs at least 4p per minute and they will have me to wait for ages! What can I do? I am far to just pop up there.

Replace the 0845 with 0345 eg 0345 604 3719, and call it for the price of a normal 01/02/03 call or if you have inclusive minutes it will be included.

DWP replaced their 0845 numbers with 0345 numbers in March 2014. Most of the rest of the government has since followed.

Calls to 03 numbers cost the same as calling 01 and 02 numbers and count towards inclusive allowances on landlines and on mobiles.

Nowadays, most people call 01, 02 and 03 numbers as part of any Anytime inclusive call allowance.

Once you make more than about 40 minutes per month of calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers on weekdays in the daytime, an Anytime inclusive calls package will work out cheaper than carrying on making out-of-plan daytime calls at 9p or 10p per minute. Getting a Weekend or an Evening & Weekend plan is usually false economy and ends up costing more.

Many government departments have changed from 0845 numbers to 0300 or 0345 numbers in the last year. Check the official gov.uk website for the correct numbers.

saynoto0870.com doesn't have an individual number for the Canning Road job centre but the number 0845 604 3719 assuming this is the number you have been given is the same as 01603 248701.

According to saynoto0870.com this is the main number for all Job Centres if there isn't a specific one found. Try that and ask to be transferred to the location you need.

Easier to look it up on gov.uk as it lists the 0345 number. Where did you find the 0845 number?

It certainly is. However the main point was the 1st part of my comment which you seem to have missed, rather than the number itself which was just an afterthought.

Maybe the OP was unaware that jobcentre, and other numbers, are listed on the official government website, and that maybe the source they used for the 0845 number is outdated (even though the 0845 number can still be used).

Given that all users of 084 and 087 numbers must declare the Service Charge from 1 July 2015, all government usage of these numbers must cease by that date.

The vast majority of 0845 lines have already been swapped to the matching 0345 number or to a new 0300 number.

If you see an 0845 number advertised on a third-party website, it is probably out of date.
If you see an 0843 or 0844 number advertised it will be fake.

Trust only numbers that you find on the official gov.uk website.
