Frozen food insurance claim?

Came home after a week away to find that the freezer part of our fridge freezer had stopped working - what a pong! Three drawers of good food, including lamb and fish, all to be chucked away.
My Swiftcover home insurance does actually cover up to £500 for frozen foods in such circumstances, but I'm rather sceptical whether I'll actually get enough to make it worthwhile after my excess. Should have photographed the contents of the drawers *before* dumping all the rotting produce in the bio-waste bin, but at least took one snap of it looking fairly full.
My basic question is whether anyone had a successful claim for frozen food after a freezer failure, and how much "proof" was required?
Thanks...

Is it really worth is when you take into consideration your excess? Then you're going to have increased premiums for years to come because of a claim.
Personally I'd just got and buy a new freezer full of food...0 -
Depends how big your freezer is - and what you have in it! My freezer is currently full to the brim and there's probably about 40 quids worth of food in it, mostly own brand and home cooked leftovers. Usually it would £20 to £30 of food in it depending on how recently I'd been shopping. So I wouldn't bother claiming. But if you had a massive chest freezer full of meat, then maybe it would be.0

Well, the truth is there was probably around £50 worth all in all - it was a fridge freezer, not a big chest. So not really worth a claim.
Ah well. Start again from scratch!0
