problem with paint not sticking to walls

I was trying to put a new coat of paint on a bedroom wall, and its jsut coming off again on the roller (a bit like if you try to emulsion over gloss paint). I don't understand why? Its the B&Q everywhere paint so quite thick, I have used it before. This is new ish to us, so I wasnt responsible for the last coat of paint in the room, but the walls feel a bit odd - shiny/slippy ish and very hard? One of my walls, we have previously sized and wallpapered and that went on fine. Is it the kind of paint that is already on the walls that is causing me a problem? I wondered if anyone could advise if there is a primer of something I can use first that would help as this is not something I have experience before?
Thanks!
Thanks!

mmm sounds like a non stick paint was it a kids bedroom? Sandpaper the whole wall(s) to give it a keyDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

yes it was a kids room. Is there anyway I can avoid sanding it, e.g. applying a special primer coat??? Its my bedroom so full of furniture etc.. I only have 2 walls to paint so was hoping to do one wall at a time whilst continuing to sleep in the room, go to work etc... sanding just makes such a mess and will require the room to be emptied and all done at once!Me debt free thanks to MSE :T0

Not cheap but Zinsser BIN Primer-Sealer will probably do the trick. I've used this myself on a wall previously PVA'd....Worked a treat :-)No longer trainee

Try washing with sugarsoap and rinsing off. Sometimes this gives enough key to progress.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

I've used this stuff before to paint over an old melamine table, it works pretty well :

You can buy it at most hardware shops or the likes of B&Q etc.
Quite a bit more expensive than a couple of sheets of sandpaper ( this is MSE, after all ! ), but if you're prepared to pay for the convenience then this should do the trick.0 -
We used B&Q paint in DDs house. It peeled off, looking horrible.

I've had this problem too and have noticed that matt paint does not go on very evenly. Also noticed that even the slightest rubbing will wipe off any paint.
Popped into my local B&Q and asked at the paint mixing desk. It seems that recent laws have meant that paint has changed (restrictions on vocs).
I have found that valspar from B&Q goes on very evenly and is wipeable.0
