Broken Sewage Manhole Cover in Garden - Responsibility?

Firstly our house is a 1960's house if that matters.
Who's responsible for the mains sewage inspection cover. Me or the water board (united utilities)?
I seem to remember my Mother getting hers replaced because it was dangerous.
Ours is in our garden but it's totally knackered (metal frame rusted and concrete cover breaking up) to the point where I have put some bricks on it to prevent anyone falling through. I'm not sure if it's a shared drain because I dare not lift the cover for fear of not getting it back in place

You'll probably have to lift the cover to find out where the pipes are coming from/going to. You can cover it with a sheet of thick ply afterwards.
As above, if it's only your effluent goes through it, it's your responsibility.
If you find pipes from elsewhere, your utility co will fix it, pronto.0 -
As I suspected. Thanks0

Just to give an alternative perspective. A year or so ago we had a broken manhole cover on our property which was covering a pipe where waste water went from our house.
Phoned up united utilities and they came out to fix it.0
