Anyone else noticed how in tv interviews it now seems common to answer a question with the word SO.......
For example
Question, How did you find the cure
Answer, So, we found the answer by adding a to b
Listen carefully and bet you will notice it happening more and more

It's not just in verbal communication.
Lots of people who post on forums start their posts with 'So.....'.
Or - even worse imho - with 'OK....'.0 -
Look, I don't think starting a reply with "So" is the way to go...

Most news correspondents answers questions starting 'Well..'"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I find it less aggravating than the habit certain people have of littering their dialogue with 'y'know?'.
Steven Gerrard is a prime example of that.
'Well, y'know, I think, y'know, erm, we did well in midfield, and, y'know, got the ball forward, y'know, and, y'know, we're makin' good progress, y'know, and if, y'know, we, errr, y'know, don't get, y'know, sent off thirty seconds after, erm, y'know, comin' on, y'know, we'll see the, y'know, results, y'know?'0 -
