Obnoxious Solicitors

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows whether solicitors have any length of time to actually pay a client? I had a debt to Nat West being dealt with by Shoosmiths solicitors, I arranged an early repayment with them and duly paid the full amount on Feb 7th this year. I decided to check with Nat West 2 weeks ago to see if the balances had been cleared as my credit file was still showing me as in debt, to my surprise they had not received anything from the solicitor. I called Shoosmiths and was told that they had received the full amount from me on the 17th of Feb and that it was still sat there doing nothing. After some strong words I was assured it would be paid immediately. A week later I call Nat West again to find out it still has not been received, so I call Shoosmiths again who now tell me it was actioned 'yesterday' and I would now have to wait between 3-7 days for it to be received by the bank. I am fuming because they have had over £25k of my money for nearly 2 months gaining interest and prolonging the misery for my credit file, and I am convinced that if I hadn't called them then it would be still sat there now.

Any advice greatly received!

I would be surprised if you can do anything here tbh, You paid the Solicitor who was meant to pay the bank and if the bank didn't want to chase this up then that is there perogative. As for your credit file this will not make a lot of difference as it was a debt and yes being cleared is still a help but most lenders who look at any type of loan would be nervous seeing a mark of this size in your name.

I had this is Moorcroft and NatWest a few years ago - however it is largely an arrangement between the solicitor and the bank - it only affects you if, for example, your credit file is affected. As Stevie says above, if it were a £25k defaulted debt that isn't good anyway
