    When they have got their finances sorted and are in the position to instruct a solicitor to proceed, unfortunately I have had my fingers burnt in the past with people making offers and then pulling out, even missing out on a cash sale once because I agreed to take it off the market, by the time the sale fell through the cash buyer had bought elsewhere.
  • I would hardly deem it antagonistic to insist a property is taken off the market once an offer has been accepted - that is the norm in our society. I would say its antagonistic (or, more to the point, not exactly honourable to keep a property on the market after offer accepted).

    The vendor had not indicated he intended to keep the property on the market after accepting my offer and I only caught him out because I checked the details of "my" house at intervals to ensure it remained unavailable to anyone else.

    It might possibly have been more understandable if he had been honest with me that he intended to keep marketing the house, rather than trying to do so behind my back and hope I wouldn't find out what he was up to.

    Buying and selling a house is a business, nothing to do with honour.

    The house was not yours until completion, the vendor does not need to ask your permission to do what he wants with "his" house.

    How was he going behind your back, did you ask them whether they would not market the house after you made your offer.

    I told my buyer it was staying on the market until the survey was booked. I personally would never accept an offer from someone who had not seen a broker and was ready to roll mortgage wise - so if that is the case it should be a few hours to get a survey appointment.

    few hours? You need to get an appointment to go through the process surely? And would they give you a survey appointment straight away?

    I don't quite know never bought before (thought that was supposed to be an advantage)

    In any case the agent has gone all quite on us and haven't returned our calls since Monday.
