do you need to keep any documents to prove you own your house or flat?

As the title.. Is everything held centrally by land registry etc or should home owners keep copies of papers they received when buying a house/ flat. I have a lease document (leasehold flat), land reg letterd , solicitor letters, searches etc. Just wondered if its safe to shred them or should I keep them? Thanks

Things like this I would keep in a folder you never know if you will need them. I tend to scan everything and keep it on my server for quick access.

the land registry will record that you own the leasehold. Papers can be useful in relation to the wording of the lease, any details of boundaries etc, and of you have any policies or indemnities you should keep those.

We are used to reading posts by borrowers on here who seem to have a very cavalier attitude about keeping hold of their loan documentation. Many have said that they have lost or disposed of any reference to their loans
But throwing away proof that you own your house seems ridiculous in the extreme. I don't care where else the information might be stored.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

If you throw everything away you'll just end up paying to get copies of them when you need them in future.
