Pregnant again - how do I afford a house for my family?

You should take a look at www.upmystreet.co.uk once you have some areas in mind. You put a locality in and it will tell you about demographic, house prices, council tax, crime rates etc etc. I take it you aren't entitled to Tax Credits because of your nationality? (Not sure about this sorry!)
Lots of luck with the new baby and best of luck in finding somewhere x0 -
I iwll just put a little word in for Swindon, because i feel noone else will!
I moved to swindon in December, due to working in London but unable to afford london prices. Rent and housing is cheap here, good bus services and it is only 1hr from London on the train.
There are good schools and loads of work here, Honda, BMW, insurance companies have head offices here as well. We also have the McArthur Glen outlet vilalge, great for bargain shopping, clothes and toys galore!
Good luck at what must be a difficult time.Leopardlady

I'm with Alikay would give Derby/Derbyshire a thumbs up. Fairly cheap housing before I bought my house 4 years ago I was in a 2 bed semi on the outskirts of the town centre for just £250 per month (in a fairly decent area). We have a nice town centre which has regenertation works going on at the moment with a massive shopping centre nearly finished, good for a night out loads of nice restauraunts (sp!) bars, etc and the Derbyshire Dales and Peaks a stones throw away (all served by really good public transport) not fogetting the direct link to London via the M1 or Midland Mainline and as Alikay said loads of big name employers close by who are always advertising.
Good luck hope you find somewhere nice to bring up your family.Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it

I went to school in Cwmbran (well Llantarnam to be precise) and it certainly set me up well. Many of my friends now teach in Llantarnam, Fairwater and Croesy and they seem to get good reports in all their inspections0 -

I was recently looking for a rented 2/3 bed house in Newport, safe area close to train station... depending on size of house, they varied from £300-£550 pcm.
You can also buy a two-bed terrace for £100,000, or a flat for £80,000! And Newport's a very up-and-coming area so house prices will boom here (even if they don't in the rest of the UK).
Council tax is pretty low comparatively and as a Welsh citizen you get free NHS prescriptions. There are regular trains that go directly to London Paddington in under 2 hours, if you still have friends / family you'd like to visit.
yes I would definately recommend newport area, for all the reasons mentioned above.
Newport is changing now from its former bad reputation. Since it has become a city it has had a lot of re development. Also the schools are realy good for the kids. Its also on the M4 and rail links and also a stones throw from the coast and also the welsh mountains are nearby but still has all the conveniences of a city.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011.
